On-the-Job Training
On-the-Job Training (OJT) is an opportunity for you to develop skills and gain paid work experience that will provide opportunities to advance in your career, or perform a job in the industry you are interested in. OJT is otherwise known as a "paid internship".
Opportunity Services' staff will work closely with you and potential employers to develop an OJT experience that will benefit both you and the employer. Once an employer has been identified, an agreement is developed which establishes your hourly wage, the type and length of training, and covers any other costs associated with the training. After this agreement is approved, the OJT experience begins and our Opportunity Services' staff continue to provide any needed support to both you and the employer. Typical OJT experiences last an average of three months.
At the end of the OJT experience, the employer then decides if he or she would like to offer you a permanent position. If not, the employer will be asked to provide a letter of recommendation that will be helpful during the job seeking process.
