"My job is fun, I meet all good friends. My first home is working at Publix. All of my family and friends are here. They need me, everybody loves me. I like my managers and talking to them. I have my best friend Maria, my second mother. Pushing carts is my job. No one else wants to do that. I also like making good coffee in the morning."

~ Osvaldo Guillen, Front Service Clerk at Publix in Lehigh Acres, FL

Day Training & Habilitation

At Opportunity Services, our goal is to create an environment and provide the skill and training necessary to foster and develop your talents. We want to encourage you to function as independently as possible.

As such, we deliver each of our day training and habilitation services based on customized individual habilitation plans.

As the premier service provider for adults with disabilities, the staff at Opportunity Services is committed to working with you and for you to achieve the dreams and goals you have set for yourself by:

  • Providing customized services in the community
  • Maintaining communication with you
  • Maintaining communication with those who are important to you

There are four different programs available with the Day Training and Habilitation services.

Community Living
Enhanced Services
Community Work
Scattered Site Work Teams

Community Living

A unique alternative to typical day programs, we tailor your program to your individual needs while providing the daily support needed to:

  • Access, interact with, and enjoy your community
  • Develop functional skills when appropriate
  • Participate in activities that stimulate each of the five senses throughout the day
  • Discover what stimuli you do and do not enjoy

In this program, Opportunity Services provides the following:

  • A clean, safe environment that looks and feels like home
  • Buildings that have the reputation of being "different" from typical day centers
  • Assurance that our day centers remain the type of environment you and those who care about you are proud to attend each day

Enhanced Services

A historically successful program designed for people who struggle with challenging behaviors. When we can identify the reasons these behaviors occur, we can reduce and eliminate the likelihood of reoccurrence. We do this by using specific, positive approaches designed to teach the skills necessary to replace the behavior:

  • Positive programming
  • Environmental control
  • Community integration

Opportunity Services provides this program's participants with the following:

  • Positive Programming - behavioral support plans based on the methodologies and teachings of the Institute of Applied Behavioral Analysis in Los Angeles, California. The program controls specific environmental stimuli, using reinforcement techniques to gain rapid control of behavior, eliminate the targeted behavior and the reason for it through development of functional skills. This serves to communicate the same messages as the challenging behavior.
  • Community Access –based upon research indicating the decreased likelihood of challenging behavior occurrence in community settings. The chances of behavioral challenges are even further reduced when participants are engaged in meaningful, enjoyable activities.

Community Work

This program serves as the most supportive work environment for you:

  • Especially effective for those striving to develop skills and achieve a job of their own in the future
  • Most work in community businesses, either directly or through contract, and are supervised by job coaches throughout their work day
  • Jobs typically range from 2 – 4 hours per day, and are often in the retail, food service, and manufacturing industries

In this program, Opportunity Services provides the following:

  • A supportive environment to help you realize goals of independent employment
  • Work teams consisting of clients with different skills, working together to accomplish the job
  • Targeted jobs that meet the needs and desires of an individual

Scattered Site Work Teams

For those people interested in Independent Employment, but not completely comfortable working without access to a job coach at all times:

  • Obtain skills and confidence to transition to Independent Services once work skills and job comfort is achieved

In this program, Opportunity Services provides the following:

  • A job coach who provides training to 10-12 individuals who are working at their own job
  • Scattered site work teams with jobs located in close proximity to one another
  • Personal coaching, training and assistance from job coach on a rotating basis
